1. INTRODUCTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Remote desktop is not included in Home and Starter editions of Windows
so you will not be able to get remote access to any Home or starter
edition of Windows.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

2. CREATE A USER ACCOUNT ON THE COMPUTER THAT YOU WANT REMOTE ACCESS TO
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
On the Windows computer that you want to have remote access to you
can create a user account for remote access if you dont want to
use one of the existing user accounts for remote access.

Click on "Start" and go to Control Panel>User accounts, click on
"Manage another account", click on "Create new account", give the
account a login name, check the optionbox before "Administrator" and
click on the button "Create account". Click on the created account,
click on "Create password", enter a password, confirm the password
and then click on "Create password".

A user account without a password can never be used to gain remote
access to a computer so you have to create passwords for user accounts
that should be used for remote connections.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

3. CHANGE SETTINGS ON THE COMPUTER THAT YOU WANT REMOTE ACCESS TO
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Click on "Start", right-click on "Computer" and select "Properties".
Click on "Remote settings", check the optionbox before "Allow connections
only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level
Authentication (more secure)" to allow connections from Vista and newer
version of Windows. Click on "Apply" and then on "OK". If you want
older versions of Windows to have remote access to the computer need to
check the optionbox before "Allow connections from computers running any
version of Remote Desktop (less secure)" instead.

You can also reach the settings for Remote Desktop by a search, by
browsing to Control Panel>System or by browsing to Control Panel>
System and Security>System.

Windows will automatically create exceptions in Windows Firewall for
remote access when you have done the changes above. Remote Desktop
listens on port 3389 (TCP) by default.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

4. CONNECT TO A COMPUTER (ENABLED FOR REMOTE ACCESS) OVER THE INTERNET
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Click on "Start", click on "All Programs", click on "Accessories" and
then click on "Remote Desktop Connection" on your own computer. Click
on "Options >>", enter the host name, domain name or the IP-adress of
the computer that you want to connect to, enter a Windows username
on the remote computer and click on the "Connect" button. When you
have finished your work on the remote computer you should log off
instead of disconnecting because a disconnection will keep your
user account signed in on the remote computer.
